The Top 3 Teknetics Metal Detectors For Gold

Gold can get pretty darn small.  Smaller than the period at the end of this sentence.  The more sensitive a metal detector is, the easier it is to hear the small stuff.  This in turn puts more gold in your pocket.

That being said, having a sensitive detector is not all there is to it.

Gold is almost always found in heavy mineralization of some sort.  Those minerals often reduce the capability of many detectors to punch down and receive a signal.  Almost like a fog that the detector must see though.  The thicker the mineralization, the thicker the fog.   Since the ground itself is the biggest target our detectors pick up, and gold is one of the smallest, good ground balancing is important so the metal detector can see through that fog.

Teknetics has 3 offerings that do very well in such conditions.  They punch through the dirt with ease thanks to their superb quick and manual ground balancing capabilities.  All 3 of them have extremely sensitive “all-metal” modes as well.

The Teknetics G2+ - T2 -  and Patriot.

The Teknetics G2+

The G2+ is a gold detector at heart.  It runs at 19khz and is extremely sensitive on small gold.  It has a threshold based all-metal mode and can detect metal the size of birdshot.  Trust me I know this for a fact - as I have found plenty of it with the Teknetics G2+.   On gold that is slightly larger like a BB, it will sound off at a good 4 inches in all-metal mode.

The last thing a prospector on a hot spot wants to do is call it quits when the sun goes down.  The G2+ has you covered with a backlight to keep you going after dark.  It is a nice orange color that will keep you from having to adjust your eyes to glare in the darkness.

With the added V-Break and notch capability, it has become very well known as a great relic and coin shooter as well.  You will be hard pressed to find another detector that locks ID on coins like the G2+.

High sensitivity - manual ground balance - backlight.  The G2+ was made to find gold.  The rest is just icing on the cake.  Coming in at 2.9 pounds, you can swing this detector all day.  A single 9V battery will give you 20 hours of use on average.

The Teknetics T2

The T2 comes in two different flavors.   The Classic and the LTD.  The LTD version is a bit pricier since is has extra options like boost and cache modes.  These expanded modes will punch through dirt and extra few inches.  Think of it like a turbo mode for your detector.

It also has DST which stands for Digital Shield Technology.  It will reduce electro-magnetic interference (EMI) that the detector might pick up.  This is great when hunting around power lines, as even some back woods gold bearing locations have them running through the land.

Both versions are extremely sensitive in their threshold based all-metal modes.  They will hit BB sized gold to 3 inches with ease.  They both have manual and quick- grab ground balancing to deal with the nasty soil.

Running at 13khz, the Teknetics T2 is one of the best “do it all” metal detectors on the market.   Gold prospecting, relic hunting, and coin shooting.  The T2 has you covered.   There is a reason the T2 sells like crazy in the African gold rush market.  It finds the gold.

Coming in at 3.5 pounds - thould be called a bit on the heavy side.  However, it has extremely good balance that makes it appear a full pound lighter.  Running off 4 AA batteries, you will get an insane 40 hours of use.

Teknetics Ameritek Patriot

I know what you are thinking.  The Patriot is a coin and jewelry machine right?  You would not be wrong with that assessment.  Is has a notch setting the coin and jewelry guys love.  However, like the T2 above, the Teknetics Patriot runs at 13khz.   It also has a threshold based all-metal mode that is just as sensitive.  It will find those BB sized pieces of gold at 3 inches just as easily.

It does not have a manual ground balance option like the T2 and G2+ - but will “quick grab” from 0 (salt) to 99 (ferrite).   I have tested it in the field and found it matches a manual ground balance phase number.  Lovely.

Like the LTD version of the T2, the Patriot also has a SL mode that is the equivalent of the boost process.  It will reach down an extra couple inches to find those nuggets that are deeper than the rest.

It is 3 lbs like the T2 classic, yet has the same great ergonomics that make it feel much lighter.  It also uses 4X AA batteries for 40 hours of use on average.

So there we have it ladies and gentlemen.  The T2 is not just a relic machine.  The Patriot is not just a coin shooter.  The G2+ is a gold machine that can do everything.   All 3 of these Teknetics metal detectors can handle the gold as well (or better) as any “do it all” product made by other manufacturers.
